Meet our owners

Situated in a secluded wooded ravine on the banks of the river Coquet in Northumberland, Brinkburn is one of the most exquisite backdrops in Northumberland.

Since opening their doors in 2011, owners Mark and Emma Fenwick have worked tirelessly to turn Brinkburn into one of the countries most desirable Wedding venues. So, why not meet the people who have made this possible.

Emma:

From designing award winning gardens to creating beautiful weddings, creativity has been at the forefront of all Emma’s successes. Following an arts degree at Camberwell School of Art, Emma soon realised her love of flowers and garden design was where her real passion lay and continued her studies at the English Gardening School. Once qualified, she promptly secured a position working for eminent florist Steven Woodham before becoming part of the creative team for the celebrated garden designer Arne Maynard.

Following the arrival of their two daughters, Emma and her husband Mark, decided to up-sticks and embark on a new adventure in Northumberland. Having fallen in love with The Stables at Brinkburn, a then derelict property suffering from years of neglect, they set about restoring and creating the bespoke property that now plays a key role as part of the backdrop for Brinkburn weddings.

Combining her love of flowers, appreciation of beautiful design and her innate ability to understand, listen and provide for her guests, Emma hosted their first wedding in 2012. Her aim back then is the same today, which is to simply exceed their hosts expectations. “Once the stage is set and the team have everything in order the day before arrival – the clients and their guests just need to relax and have fun”

Mark:

As a one-time Muralist and Interior designer, creating the perfect backdrop comes second nature to Mark. Following the launch of his design business in Chelsea, 1990, he went on to work for clients as diverse (not to mention demanding) as Elton John and Margaret Thatcher, soon realising that understanding and delivering a client’s needs was integral to his success. With a thriving company, and a growing interest in business, Mark achieved an MA in business studies from the London School of Economics, going on to work with creative Start-up companies, offering support and investments to small business’s.

Having grown up in Northumberland, returning with his young family was a natural move for Mark. Soon after their return, it was while revisiting an area he knew from his childhood he decided to chase a long-time dream and was soon overseeing the renovation of The Stables with Emma.

However, it is his business experience which has proved to be the driving force behind their venture. Like all successful companies, behind the scenes there is a great team, working hard to keep the business fresh. Getting this right is a constant challenge and one he feels passionate about. But ultimately it is his love of the area that he enjoys most about his role. “I love showing off a small part of Northumberland to people visiting for the first time and helping them create beautiful memories for life”
